Café Du Cycliste campaign video and stills
Premium cycling apparel brand Café du Cycliste asked me to shoot a one-minute promo and a set of stills featuring a British male cyclist who’s had a story about a location and the reason he cycles there. Mike Warren is an ultra-long-distance-cyclist who also happens to have to cross the Mendips to visit his grandmother. Off we went.
We had quite a bit of trouble with the equipment, shooting with a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K for the first time. It was supposed to sit on a DJI Ronin-S gimbal and powered by a v-lock battery through d-tap, but the camera didn’t fit on the gimbal, so we ended up putting the camera on my big Ronin 1 gimbal and powering it with the small internal batteries that only last about 10 minutes. The preferred codec and bitrate caused the camera to just shut down mid shot, so that had to change as well. Initially, the tricycle we were using stopped working too before a battery change fixed that. All in all quite a lot of small things that stood in the way of it being an enjoyable shoot. The good thing was that the weather was mostly on our side and we had a great group of people to work with.
The footage from the BMPCC6K is really nice and grades well by the way, so that helped…
